Comic Reviews: 7/2/14 – Swamp Thing #33, Lazarus #9, Southern Bastards #3, & More

Holy long titles Batman! There’s a reason why I chose those books for the header. Don’t worry Miles, you’ll always be Ultimate Spider-Man to me! Time to review the comics.

Swamp Thing #33:

I’m still amazed at how well Charles Soule is plugging away on this title. Since he’s taken over, everything has been building, but not in an overly obnoxious way. This was a tense read, as the Wolf seemed like he was setting himself up to but a worthy adversary. I wish the camera was flipped on the last page though.

Lazarus #9:

This book scares me. Rucka has said how he has plans for this to run at least 60 issues. At the rate this is releasing, that’ll take until 2020. Still fantastic all around. I loved how this arc concluded, shifting the attention a bit from Forever, and the next arc looks fun. Still, I hope this doesn’t end prematurely.

Southern Bastards #3:

The Jason’s (Aaron and Latour) are knocking this book out of the park. It’s reminiscent of Walking Tall. Solid bit of action with some melodrama. Who is he talking to on the phone?

Miles Morales: The Ultimate Spider-Man #3:

Seems like a lot of repeats going on with several characters returning. Looking beyond the surface, I’m sure Bendis has something planned beside the obvious, just not sure what. Holy face melting! I like the call out to the universes colliding, and how Marquez drew himself and Bendis into the book.

Atomic Robo: The Knights of the Golden Circle #2:

It’s been a long two months since the last issue, not knocking the book, I’m sure there was a good reason for the delay, but I thought that was the purpose of short issue volumes. Solid quality all around. I like the threat of Robo losing power, and the last page reveal. More crazy science!
