Here’s a few of the books I’ve read this week, spoiler free.
Walking Dead #116:
The second issue the ten part “All Out War” continues this week as Robert Kirkman keeps his one man artist gulag with Charlie Aldard going. With the book on a 3 week shipping schedule for this arc, I expected a dip in quality, but the lines were very crisp, with two different two pages showcasing the action. The expected twist from the last issue was a smart one.
The next issue of Snyder’s and Capullo’s Zero Year was decent, though double sized and priced ($4.99). Most of this seemed like familiar ground until the third act reveal. The new Dr. Death villain is interesting, and horrifying. I like Batman’s current costume with the ribbed padding, but think the purple gloves are bit goofy. And the opening Batmobile trick was a little eye rolling. The back up featuring a young Harper Row was fun. I can’t wait to see what they plan to do with that character.
All-New X-Men #18:
After Battle of the Atom, the story rolls on with the past X-Men stuck in the present and switching camps. While this was a much needed calm between storms, it was a fun read seeing the characters differentiate themselves from their present counterparts. And they finally got new costumes, though they remind me of team Voltron.
